Junior - the children of IOGT 2005/30/08
Prevention work of alcohol and other drug abuse is made trough many types of methods.
In some of the IOGT organisations you can find Junior organisations for children and young teenagers. Members of IOGT and members of the youth organisations volunteers as group leaders. They become important rolemodels in children’s clubs and take care of other activities such as school activities and camps.
The Junior clubs offers a drug free environment. It’s a place where the children learn to stand up for themselves trough creative activities. The Junior work is a mix of fun experience and educational information. The juniors learn about the effects of alcohol and other drugs, democracy and international solidarity.
The Junior organisations come in different shapes. In some of the IOGT organisations the junior work has been a part of the movement for a long time. In these countries Junior has got a lot of members, clubs, leaders and even employees. In other IOGT organisations the Junior work is only a new, small part of the organisation with a few members. Many organisations are motivated to start up Junior work and develop activities.
There are also many of IOGTs ´partner organisations that work with children and youth without calling themselves Junior. The collaboration between the different organisations is very important. Leadership and working methods is examples of exchange that gives the children’s clubs great motivation of prevention work.
