Rehabilitation loan Mela  2010/14/04

In India women are the real victims of alcohol. This is because they are without regular employment and income. They have to depend upon men for their needs. But men are wasting high portion of their income for alcohol and tobacco. So, women are without sufficient food, cloth and health care.

Brain society with the support of a leading Gramin (rural) Bank conducted a rehabilitation loan Mela on 9th April 2010. A total amount of 25 Lakhs (56,000 USD) were distributed to 20 Self help groups. With this they can start locally viable micro production units.

According to our study 50 families will get regular employment and additional income. All the beneficiaries are from addicted families living in poor conditions. Both awareness programmes and action programmes are necessary to reduce the use of alcohol. Brain society gives more importance for rehabilitation works. Unless we undertake rehabilitation programmes the recovered members will again become addicts.

All the beneficiaries are women and now they are very interested in the prevention works and responsible to protect men from alcohol.

The full loan amount were given by the bank at low rate of interest and with simple terms and conditions. All the groups are working under Brainsociety. So, Brain society is confident that we can reduce the alcohol consumption very much in our areas with in years.
